Whether you are a general practitioner, a specialist, or an allied health professional, waiting lists are a great way to keep track of patients that are waiting for a specific type of service. No need to keep an Excel sheet or a notebook on your desk to keep track of these patients: use the Juno EMR waiting list feature to keep everything within your EMR!

This guide includes details on how to create and manage waiting lists, as well as how to add patients to and remove them from existing lists.

Creating or Editing a Waiting List

Before a patient can be added to a waiting list, you will need to create it. Follow the steps below to do so.

  1. Navigate to your Juno EMR schedule, and load the schedule for the doctor(s) you would like to associate this waiting list with. This can be an individual schedule, or a schedule group including any number of practitioners that should be associated with the list if the list is tied with a team of providers.

  2. At the top of the page, click on "Report" to open the report page.

    • In the Juno interface, the “Reports” option may be hidden under the “More” drop down. Simply click on “More”, then click on “Reports” to open the reports page.

  3. Go to number 16, "Waiting List" and click on the name of the report.

  4. Towards the top of the Waiting List page, click on the "Create List" button. This will open the “Create/Edit Waiting List Name” window:

  5. From here, you have three options:
    1. Rename an existing list: Select the list you wish to rename using the drop down, type the new name in the next field, then click on the “Change Name” button on the right.
    2. Create a new list: Type in the name of your waiting list, then type on the “Create Name” button.
    3. Remove a list: Select the list you want to remove from your system using the bottom drop down, then click on the “Remove Name” button.

  6. Close the Waiting List window once a message appears to let you know it has been created.

You will need to refresh the ‘Waiting List’ report page to view the newly created list, though you will already be able to add patients to it without doing so.

Adding Patients to a Waiting List

I should mention right away that a patient must exist within your EMR to be added to a waiting list. To create your patient, you will need at least the patient’s name, date of birth and gender. Consult our guide on creating patients if you are not familiar with registering patients.

To add a patient to a waiting list when using the Juno interface,

  1. Navigate to the patient’s details page. This can be done by using the patient search tool or by clicking on the “M” on an appointment for that patient from the schedule, for example.

  2. Scroll down until you locate the “Additional Information” section of the details page.

  3. Select the waiting list you want to add this patient to using the “Waiting List” drop down (4).

  4. If desired, update the “Date of request” (5) to the appropriate date, and add a “Waiting List Note” (6).

  5. Click on the “Save” button located at the bottom or top right of the details page to add the patient to the waiting list.

If you are using the Classic interface, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the patient’s Master File. This can be done by clicking on the patient’s demographic number in the patient Search window, on the “M” link on an appointment for that patient, or on the patient’s name at the top of the eChart, for example.

  2. Click on the “Edit” link located towards the top left of the patient details section.

  3. Scroll down until you locate the “Waiting List” section.

  4. Select the waiting list you want to add this patient to using the “Waiting List” drop down (7).

  5. If desired, add a “Waiting List Note” (8) and update the date of request (9) to the appropriate date. The date of request will default to the current date if you do not enter one.

  6. Click on the “Update Record” button at the bottom of the page to add the patient to the list.

Viewing and Managing Your Waiting Lists

You can see which patients are on the list and manage notes and dates by going through the following steps:

  1. At the top of the page, click on "Report" to open the report page.

  • In the Juno interface, the “Reports” option may be hidden behind the “More” drop down. Simply click on “More”, then click on “Reports” to open the reports page

  1. Go to number 16, "Waiting List" and click on the name of the report.

  2. Use the drop down at the top of the page to select the list you want to view, then click on the “Generate Report” button. The list of patients associated with the selected list will appear in the window, as shown below.

From here,

  • easily navigate to the patient’s Master File (Classic interface) by clicking on their name on the left;

  • update your notes and the date of request by updating the information in each field, then clicking on the “Update” button located on the left by the patient’s name;

  • book an appointment for this patient by selecting the provider using the “Provider” drop down, then clicking on the “make appt” link;

  • remove the patient from the list by clicking on the “remove” link on the far right.

If you are using the Classic interface, you can also remove a patient from the list by booking an appointment on your schedule, then confirming that you indeed wish to remove them from the list when Juno asks you to confirm.
