Are you practicing in Alberta? Are you interested in finding out more about the integration between Juno EMR and Netcare? Search no more! This guide will give you all the details you need to get started and use the ANP PLB integration.

ANP PLB – What does it mean?

ANP PLB stands for Alberta Netcare Portal Parameter-Launched Browser. It is a bit of a mouthful, but the idea behind it is rather simple: Juno EMR integrates with Netcare via your web browser. You will be able to access the Netcare platform by clicking the Netcare button in the patient record in Juno EMR.  Netcare is launched in context of the currently open patient chart in Juno, meaning you don’t have to search for and open this same patients’ record in Netcare – it will be done automatically for you.

Great, sign me in! What do I do?

Before you can start using the integration, however, there are important steps to take.

If you have not already, get access to Alberta Netcare. You can find more information on doing so by consulting the Access Alberta Netcare webpage.

To access Alberta Netcare through your Juno EMR, you will also need to install an application called Citrix Workspace on your device. You can find more information about it on Citrix’s website here.

As part of this process, you will also need to install the RSA SecurID App on your device. This application will give you an access token that is required to connect to Alberta Netcare via Juno EMR. Find our more on RSA SecurID.

Getting your User Profile Configured

You have an account to access Alberta Netcare and Citrix Workspace is installed on your device? Great! Let’s go ahead and configure your Juno EMR user profile to include your Netcare User Id. To do so, go through the following steps:

  1. In Juno, click on your name at the top right to open the user menu, then click on the ‘User Settings’ option. This will open your user settings/preferences menu which looks like this:
  2. Using the tabs at the top of the ‘User Settings’ section, navigate to the ‘Integration’ section.
  3. Locate the ‘Netcare User Id’ field located at the bottom of the page, and type in your Alberta Netcare user id.
  4. Click on the ‘Save All Settings’ button located at the bottom of the page.

Accessing Alberta Netcare from Juno EMR

You will now have access to Alberta Netcare from your patient records in the Juno interface of your Juno EMR. If you are using the Classic interface, start by navigating to the Juno interface by clicking on the ‘Juno’ logo at the top left of your screen.

From there, navigate to the patient record of your choice. This is the patient record you will be accessing through the integration. If you are not familiar with using the Juno interface to navigate, consult our guide on searching for patients in Juno EMR to find out more.

Locate the ‘Netcare’ button at the top right of the chart, as per the screenshot below.

Note – the Netcare button will be disabled if your patient has an invalid or missing PHN/HIN.

Clicking on the ‘Netcare’ button will open a new page in a new browser tab. On this page, you will be prompted to enter your User name and Passcode from RSA SecureID. This is required to connect to Alberta Netcare. Enter the details, then click on the ‘Log On’ button. Please note that a new tab will remain open (Citrix Storefront) and all you need to do to access Juno again is to switch browser tabs.

An Internet Explorer window will open. This is the web browser you will be using to navigate around Alberta Netcare. To connect, enter your Alberta Netcare User ID and password in the appropriate fields (your user ID should already be there, based on your Juno user settings), then click on the ‘Login’ button. If you are working out of multiple facilities, you will be prompted to specify the facility to use before proceeding to the patient record.

What else should I know?

Is information shared between both platforms?

No. Data is not being shared between the platforms. You can access Netcare but doing so from Juno EMR will not share any data to the provincial platform or allow you to directly download information to your Juno EMR.

How often must I login to RSA?

The RSA session remains active once you are logged in. You will only need to go through the RSA login process once per session.

How do I terminate my session in ANP?

You can logout of ANP at any time once you have completed your work by clicking the logout button at the top right of internet explorer within Netcare. Doing a logout of ANP will not log you out of Juno EMR. Our recommended workflow is to click the Logout button in Juno EMR which will automatically also log you out of Alberta Netcare.

We do not recommend closing your Juno EMR browser as that is not sufficient to log you out of ANP. You will continue to have access to ANP if you close your Juno EMR browser without logging off.

Alberta Netcare Portal automatically times out after 30 minutes of inactivity (this can be changed to a shorter or longer timeframe within Netcare). If this happens, you must log back in before you can resume your work.

I accessed one patient record and now want to look at another one. How do I do that?

There are two approaches. You can access a different record directly within ANP. Doing so, however, will not update which patient you are looking at in Juno EMR and you will need to search for their record separately in Juno.

The recommended approach is to navigate to a different patient record within Juno and then click the ‘Netcare’ button which refreshes your current Netcare view to now display this same patient.
